Wivenhoe Trail

Social Distancing Whilst Exercising.

The Wivenhoe Trail is an informal route of about 5 miles, stretching from Colchester town centre to the riverside town of Wivenhoe and on to Brightlingsea, via Thorrington Mill.

The recent "popularity" of the trail with those taking daily exercise has raised some concerns about its shared use by people on foot and those on bicycles, particularly with regard to Social Distancing.

Inquiries with Sustrans and Colchester Cycling Club have revealed that parts of the trail (from Colchester to the Station car park) are shared use, after which the route for cyclists is diverted through Wivenhoe and on to the roads, as shown on the map, provided by Sustrans.

Please consider these issues when planning for your safe exercise.
