KGV

Wivenhoe Town Council's King George V playing field, High Street, CO7 9AB is an open access public space adjacent to Wivenhoe Wood.

The field has a skatepark, basketball area, football field, plenty of seating and easy access to the railway station and the Wivenhoe Trail.

Occasionally we receive complaints about dog fouling and dogs off lead on the field and work closely with the borough council zone wardens to encourage and educate people about being a responsible dog owner. We provide a fenced dog exercise area at the top end of the field where you can enjoy off lead time with your dog.

In February 2019 the Council decided to trial a new approach to the management of sections of the King George V field leaving a few areas of grassland uncut until the summer to allow a range of grasses and wildflowers to bloom and create a better habitat for butterflies, bees and other insects.

Read the KGV Wildlife Report  to find out more about the wildlife and management of the KGV.

Next to the main field you will find the Wildlife and Jubilee Gardens and the emerging Sensory Garden - an unloved area that that the town and borough council are working together to transform. The groundwork started on this area in early in 2020 with a volunteer team from the University of Essex joining us on site in February. The ongoing design work will be a collaborative effort with local groups and businesses.

If you would like to hire the KGV, contact the council offices for further details.
